ASIO driver stopped working: Solution

Post by Spogg »

If you are using a Focusrite USB audio interface you may find that the ASIO driver has just stopped working.
In Flowstone with ASIO driver selected there is no sound and the Synth’s GUI stops responding. In Reaper the play function appears to start but the playback head doesn’t move.

This is due to an AVG and Avast anti-virus update which identifies some code in the driver, via a heuristic process, as potentially malicious. AVG blocks it but gives no warning or options. At the moment the only solution is to uninstall AVG/Avast (same company I understand).

Maybe this will help someone else.

Now I have to look for a new AV app...

Cheers

I highly recommend Avira. I have the full version though, not the free one.

At any time you have full control. Never will it do anything against your will. You decide how much automatism you want. And especially for heuristic results, you can always put something on a white list (in your case that would have meant you could continue working with ASIO). Also, if you want to you can immediatly upload the software in question and they will get back to you with either confirming a false alert (which happens pretty fast) or a virus database update.

One thing is important though: Do not, I repeat, do not deactivate your virus protection. First get your new AV installer, then seperate your pc from the internet. Only now you can de-install your old and install your new AV.
