schematic loads blank

Hi gang,

I recently did a bunch of work on a schematic and saved it. Now when I open it I get an empty schematic, even though the file is nearly 3MB in size. I'm assuming that something went wrong during the saving process and the file got corrupted, though there were no errors either on the saving or loading side. Any idea what went wrong? Is there any way to recover, view, or partially recover what is in the schematic? The Flowstone version was 3.0.2 Firefly and the OS was Win 7 SP1 64-bit. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Post the schematic, so that others can check it. My projects are around 3MB in size (no large/many bitmaps nor large/many text arrays, most are schematic parts only), and it still works correctly.

My advise - when you work on project - do few steps (usually one sub/topic related), save your work, and make a copy of the file. Rename your copy by increasing the version number, do another few steps and again repeat the copy/rename process. Thus - if something is corrupted, then you will learn where, and how much you need to recover.

Oh no mate.
I absolutely hate losing computer work.
In today's age of cheapish 1tb hds,
save all the time IMO.
I typically save the tiniest mods,
and clog up my folder in the short term.
Then when I have accomplished what I want to,
I keep a master or 2,
and delete all the small iterations.
By all means post up ur .fsm and we will try and load it.

Try this:
Rename the .FSM File to a .ZIP, extract the schematic.osm file in there and load this with FS.

Might sound weird, but do you have any wireless links in there?

If so, load schematic, save with a new name just in case, put in a new wireless connection named after one that you know should be there - then try the new follow wireless feature to see if it finds any of the senders/receivers.

Thanks for the great suggestions. What a nice community!

Unfortunately, none of them worked out, as apparently the file got corrupted beyond recognition during saving. Fortunately, I had saved earlier revisions, so I didn't lose a huge amount of work in terms of the schematic. The only bummer was that I did a fair amount of testing on the version that got screwed up, which I will have to re-do.

Anyway, thanks a bunch for taking the time to lend your wisdom.
