Aha -
Just uninstalled FS on my little netbook and re-installed 3.0.2 - CPU much lower!!
So looks like something changed in the 3.0.3 update to make this happen - at least that will give Malc some clue.

Depends how easy it is to fix!

I guess Malc works now under some pressure. Thus - such simple but crucial errors may happen.

Very easy to do - I'll bet we all have with our FS projects at some time!
Quick question - me and tester are both on Win XP - how about you other guys?

Just verified it, with some backups. The problem was introduced in 3.0.3. With a backup of 3.0.2 the CPU usage is down to nothing.
Had a look at the version history, but there is no obviouse change, where this bug possibly was introduced.
Edit: Using Win8... so it is OS independent

Cheers MyCo - looks like we've ruled out system/OS stuff then, definitely something in the 3.0.3 code.

I was informed Malc, the problem too,
it happens with some schematic but not with others.
but have not been able to isolate the problem as it can be.

Hi guys,
Just to let you know that Malc has got back to me already.
He has confirmed tester's suspicion. The problem is entirely with idling; as soon as any thread (audio, MIDI, Ruby etc.) needs anything done, it will get done straight away with no impact on the .exe's performance. You can see this if you try calling up the audio menus or re-sizing the window - the CPU load drops for a moment as the .exe comes out of idling mode.
He's also nailed down the cause of the problem already, so there'll be a fix in the next update. (before anyone asks - no, he didn't tell me when that would be!).

Well - you did not asked "when".
But good to know that the update is on the go.

Well, my most hated thing at work is when the boss asks me "when will your project be finished", and I don't even have the first prototype built yet, and I'm still doing customer support for the previous version (who knows how many people will be calling me?), and my component supplier just called to say that his delivery from China hasn't arrived yet with those critical parts that I need, and the project manager just told me he wants some changes to the specification ...etc...etc....
I wouldn't dream of doing that to the guy who makes my favourite software in the world! Hell, maybe I'll even get out of the house and meet some real flesh-and-blood people while I'm waiting for the update! he he
