Help me improve this compressor!

Hey Flowmunity! I've been working on a compressor design and got stuck in a few parameters could any one help me impliment a Dry/wet ratio control and an automatic release ? well these two are really something I want for this design, but an internal sidechain peak & low/high self filter with all Q and Gain paremeters would be awesome aswell ! Help me in my efford to make a cool free plugin

edit: let me add that if there is an option to reverse the compressor envelope to expansion that would be awesome too )

Auto-release is a much more complex thing than that, though. Not quite sure how you would approach it - usually it works something like making the release faster for bigger peaks in the volume, so the level sensor in the compressor would be involved somehow, smoothed out with an envelope follower - too much maths for me after that part!

Yes, I like that approach - knobs are good for saving space on the GUI, but fades are easier to quickly see the setting too, I always think.

well instead of a commonly used lowcut sidechain, a peak type of eq band

The stock "State variable filter" has a peaking mode. That would be a good place to start - just remove the tracking and modulation parts from the module; they can be safely deleted so long as the main frequency knob is still connected to the 'cutoff'' of the 'SVF3' inside. The 'times 144' and 'P->F' that modify the knob value are probably worth keeping, though - they give the frequency control a nice smooth 'taper' so that the useful frequencies aren't all bunched up at one end of the control.

You could also remove the filter type selector if you don't want the other modes, and maybe fix the resonance at a fairly low level too (you don't want the peak too sharp otherwise you might get bad 'pumping' effects when the frequency content of the audio changes). Just play around with the controls until it is sounding good - then connect a float box to the controls to see the values that are working, and replace the knobs with the fixed values.
