Math Functions
Math Functions
Hello Gang,
Have any of you ever thought of using math FUNCTIONS as wave-forms, really wave shaping because they do require a waveform as input. The Sine wave is what’s required, but you can get some good results with other wave-forms, just do your own testing. I have been using the SINC function (see pdf from Wikipedia) for a while now and since have started playing around with other’s as you can see, the FRENSEL function as an example. I really like how these can add harmonics that really sweeten the sound. Also inputting these rich harmonic waveforms into a filter will let even control the harmonics further! My favorite so far is the Sinc Function because it can be modified by a dc offset, my shape control. This then also lets the shaper be modulated (play with the LFO, thanks trogluddite). There is the unnormalized Sinc function and the normalized Sinc function. Also there are many variations you can do to it, I provided a few to play with. Try some of these out in your next creation, I think you will really like the sounds they can produce!
What I am hoping is some of you will discover other math functions that work as new wave-forms (wave shapers) and post them here. I am sure there are many more to be found that can produce a great range of harmonics.
Have fun, and PLEASE do comment, BobF.....

Re: Math Functions
Hello Bob,
just got these and will spend time on the week-end with them. I like math. And yes I thought about doing something like that. As always. Ideas.
Thank you for your work and effort! Have a good week-end.
Best regards
Phil

Re: Math Functions
I really like the huge range of different waveforms you can get with this Bob.
I guess you just tweak away until you find something that fits, because I couldn’t predict what I would get from the names. That’s not a criticism though, just what I found with a quick test.
You are certainly an ideas man, and this is a great one, so well done (again!).
And thanks for sharing it with us.
Cheers

Added a window function to the spectrum display - much sharper and quieter now.

Thanks Martin, it's Super!
Thanks Spogg, Phil, and wlangfor.
Hope to see some new functions from you all soon and all those that downloaded but didn't comment!

Re: Math Functions
Hello again gang,
Ok, just a quick modification on the FRENSEL FUNCTION. Lot of harmonics to play with on this one, have fun.
Time for someone else to try one, or two, or three, and so on.
Till next tine, BobF.....

Re: Math Functions
Thanks Martin, these are really nice!
Keep them coming gang. If you can"t come up with any of your own try modifying the one's posted.
Later then, BobF.....
