The Quilcom Waterfall: Effect or instrument?

Post by Spogg »

Yep, me again!

The Quilcom Waterfall should be thought of as a creative tool rather than an effect. The idea is to use an input to create new sounds rather than make small adjustments to existing sources. I’d say it’s more like an instrument really.

The Waterfall was inspired by 112db’s Cascade synth’s “cascade” section.

https://www.112db.com/instruments/cascade/

It features the exact same delay topography but of course there is no pre-render option, since it’s not integrated into a polyphonic synth.

Here is a 3 minute demo of some of the Quilcom Waterfall’s presets in action. The clips all use just my voice, in a single take, and a single instance of the plugin with no other effects.

The VST plugin is on http://www.flowstoners.com under Quilcom.
The zip includes a user guide.

I hope you have some creative fun and I would really enjoy basking in the pleasure of any feedback you can spare me :P

Cheers

Hi Spogg,

Quite interesting and really different, but I am probably one of the few that like effects like this. I played around which it for several hours, but yet I still need even more time on it to get a real understanding in all that it can do. It will be interesting to see if you do get some more comments on it and how many times it gets downloaded.

I will definitely play with it some more, and give more comments later. Do you mind if I mod it some?

Catch you later then, BobF.....

Hi Bob. I'm glad you like it. Of course you can do whatever you want with this or anything else I share, as can anyone else. I'd be interested to see any changes you come up with.

When I was making this I wanted to stick to the Cascade effect's topology but couldn't resist making a few additions and modifications which I think enhanced the range considerably. A lot more occurred to me but I wanted to keep it as straightforward as possible so folk wouldn't be put off by too many options. Sometimes less is more!

Cheers

Wow, impressive stuff! I never thought you could modulate integer delays, but in your schematic it seems to work somehow.

Maybe it works because I didn't know it shouldn't

Hi gang,

With Spogg's permission I have modded "The Quilcom Waterfall" just a little. I have added a pitch follower and a few new presets to show it's use. Have fun with it and all comments are always welcome.

Later then, BobF.....

An interesting and worthy addition Bob. It extends the range of what's possible without adding too much complexity.

Than you for taking an interest and offering that :D

Cheers
