ADSR abrupt release.

Post by lalalandsynth »

I have been trying out a few ADRS´s and most of them seem to have an abrupt fadeout at the end .
Can this be changed or do I need another ADSR module?

Does this only annoy me perhaps ?

A lot depends on your settings. Have you got smooth re-trigger set for the ADSRs?
Are you running with enough voices? Have you got re-trigger stolen set?

etc!

Also have a look at this topic...

No resetting/retriggering involved, just a super simple synth and , play one note and listen to the release.
I can obviously lengthen the release but it always ends in the same way , not a smooth transition to 0.

I have tried a few other Flowstone synths , all have this behaviour ...so far ?

Oh I see.

What you hearing is the action of a linear slope. The rate of change is constant throughout the release. This is fine for filter cutoff but not for amplitude, if you want a more natural instrument sound.
So you need an exponential decay and release and this becomes more apparent at longer release times.

Here's my collection of envelope generators that can offer such behaviour. The one I generally favour myself was made for me by Martin Vicanek. I like it because its CPU is very low and this matters when you have a lot of voices sounding and/or a lot of envelope generators per voice (like in an additive synth).

Hope this helps!
