The Quilcom SIM-MBIRA: A plucky little instrument!

Hello all!

I’ve had a go at an Mbira/Kalimba/Thumb piano thing this time. As always it was fascinating to research (Google) this type of instrument, watch stuff on YouTube and analyse my own modern Kalimba’s sound and behaviour.

Something that fascinates me is the human desire to make music and rhythm by whatever means is at hand. For example, Mbira tines were originally bamboo but when the railway came to Africa someone had the idea of using the sleeper nails by hammering them flat and shaping them.

There’s a lot more info in the background folder as usual.
