Stereo pan-per-note?

A forum search didn't turn up anything (but I may have been asking the wrong question) - many polysynths from the early '80s on, had the ability to pan each note separately in the stereo field. Is this possible with FS?

You can change the velocity data to make the notes pan as you like

Yes it’s dead easy.

You do it in white poly, so the panner can be based on any poly modulation source. Could be random, velocity, note value (key tracked), LFO, envelope or whatever you want.

My SIM-HC spread the sound Left to right based on the pitch of each note. But it’s best if the lowest notes are panned more central, otherwise the sound can be a bit lopsided in stereo.

What I'm referring to is manual control of pan for the number of notes of polyphony. If your max poly is 12 notes, you'd have 12 pan knobs; one for each note of polyphony. As I understand it, the first knob sets pan for first key pressed, second one for second key pressed and so on. So it isn't based on the keyboard position, just sequence in which the keys are pressed. Many early digital hardware synths could do this, the Prophet VS, for example. If you look at this screenshot of the plugin, Augur - which models the VS quite accurately, you see a stack of knobs at the lower right marked 'Pan'. There are eight because the VS had 8-note polyphony. I assume if you press just one key, it's panned to the position set by the top knob, the second additional key pressed pans to the position of the second knob and so on.

Oh I see!

Sometimes stuff that could be done easily in hardware is considerably more difficult in FS.
I imagine in hardware you’d have 8 oscillator and filter strips and just pan each strip between the outputs.

In FS I think you’d have to use the channel i.d. system. So the channel i.d. would route the poly audio to the appropriate pan knob system. If you went down the mono road... well, good luck! That would entail a bespoke voice assignment system.

With the FS alpha version its very easy, it has a new global voice id, and you can assign anything you want to it.

I’ve lost track of what the alpha can do Adam. Is there a summary document with all the changes and additions? There used to be something ages ago but it must be out of date by now.

I should probably ask on Slack I know.

I dont know, its way too much, but I am sure there will be one huge file with the changes once its released
